Consider SCO when deciding on ARC or PLC

Farmers can now elect to 2023 crop year Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs. The enrollment period opened on Oct. 17, 2022, and runs through March 15, 2023.

Contact your local Farm Service Agency (FSA) office to learn more about these programs, eligibility, and how to apply. If you’re unsure of how to contact your local FSA office, use the USDA service center locator tool HERE.

When making the decision between ARC and PLC, consider the eligibility of each program with the Supplemental Coverage Option (SCO) endorsement available with your MPCI policy.

A producer cannot have SCO and ARC on the same field. SCO pays on planted acres and ARC pays on 85% of base acres. If you intend to purchase SCO, be sure to register for PLC instead of ARC at the FSA office.

Unlike SCO, Enhanced Coverage Option (ECO) is not affected by PLC or ARC Farm Program decisions.
