Managing trees on your business’s property

October 9, 2023/0 Comments/in Business Insurance, News, Specialty Business Insurance/by kingsgateinsur

If you own any commercial property, you’re likely responsible for keeping the trees on your property in good condition. This may seem like a low priority maintenance task, but trees can cause significant property damage and injuries if they aren’t taken care of. Tree branches can hit a building or vehicle, cause an injury, or knock down power lines, which can result in business disruptions or inventory spoilage if your organization sells or prepares food. Taking care of the trees on your property can help prevent these issues.

Regular tree care

If you own multiple properties or even just one large property with many trees, it may be useful to hire a company to trim and maintain your trees. A professional tree-trimming company will have the right tools and equipment to ensure that all your trees are trimmed, and they’ll be able to remove any trees that are dying or dangerous. Before selecting a vendor, obtain multiple quotes from different companies and thoroughly vet your options. Sometimes the cheapest option won’t be the company who’ll do the best job. Ensure the company that you choose is properly insured.

In between visits from your hired tree-trimming company, add regular tree checks to the general property maintenance routine. Observing and documenting each tree on your property will help you to identify any issues prior to them becoming dangerous. After a storm, it’s a good idea to include a tree check to ensure there aren’t any loose/hanging branches that could become a hazard. By including regular tree care and maintenance on your property upkeep checklist, your organization will be better able to avoid potential damage and injuries caused by trees and tree limbs.
